Sore

Today I had my second work out with my trainer, and she kicked my butt. I like the workout that she had put together for me today, it really worked my legs, and my abs! Yeah!!! I actually felt as if I got something out of it.
Tomorrow maybe my day off from gym, plus side I will be walking around the zoo with my son and a few of his classmates for their field trip, that is still exercise, but I will probably fit in a family walk this weekend, whether pending.

I have a lot of work to do.

So....I met with a personal trainer today, and well after some assesments, I have a lot of work to do. my new or should I say my long term goal is to lose 45lbs, WOW. However she said if I work out 5x a week, and up my strength training it is a realistic goal. Okay okay, so that is also if I work with her 3x a week for about 3 months. Do you know how much that would cost me. Almost a 1,000 a month. I know like she said, and a lot of people think, you can't put a price on your well being. Well I say "Yes you can when you can't afford it." It would be great if I could do that, and who know maybe I can. That is a months worth of childcare. Wow. Anyway, I do get 3 free sessions so that is a start. She gave lots of good pointer, and I just have to make myself go. A good website is www.thedailyplate.com it is a good place to track your calories. I was putting in some of mine, they have everything. McDonalds sweet tea, Austin brand Chedder cheese crackers, you name it...it is pretty much on there. It is free as well. She also told me that I have to eat at least 1200 calories a day, or our bodies go into starvation mode which, then our bodies hang on to every calorie and fat that we eat because it doesn't know when it will get more.

Tomorrow is day to with the personal trainer, it will be a full hour of workout so we will see where I am at tomorrow!

Day 2 & 3

Alright, so yesterday I went to the gym and spent an hour or so doing upper and lower body strengthening exercises. Today I am sore, but all is good!

Today I went to the gym and did 30 minutes of cardio, 15 on the bike and 15 on the treadmill. I did manage to run about 8 minutes of that 15, averaging a little over a mile when all said and done. Yeah me. I also swept and mopped the whole downstairs of our house, which consists of a dinning room, family room/breakfast nook/kitchen combo, and the bath room. I worked up about the same amount of sweat doing that as I do at the gym! I wonder how many calories one burns sweeping and mopping?

What I really don't like about exercising is that I go to the gym, and burn about 200-220 calories doing cardio, I work out in the morning, then I come home and eat lunch, have a snack and then eat supper. To me it seems almost pointless to go to the gym. I burn calories just to replace them later, what??? Okay, okay, I know though that you look at is as if you are burning the bad calories, fat, and then if you eat right you are just replacing the nutritious calories that your body needs. Am I right? LOL, anyway, the other plus is that cardio is good for your heart and seeing how high blood pressure runs in my family along with heart disease, working out is a good thing!!!!

Tonight I am trying a recipe for blacked Tilapia! Sounds good, but we will soon see.

Tomorrow is Saturday, I am taking the weekend off from the gym, I may try to fit in a family walk on Saturday, we will see, if not I am not going to sweet over it. Monday I will start all over again, I have a meeting with a personal trainer Monday morning so I will get some good tips. Our gym lets you have 3 free days with a personal trainer so I am going to take advantage of that!

Have a good weekend!

Day 1

So, today officially begins my personal challenge. I did pretty good. I had some yummy scrambled eggs for breakfast, which is a big step for me because I am not the eating breakfast type of person. Anyway, then I went to the gym, it was pretty empty, which is fine by me. I did 15 minutes on the stationary bike, and then I move up to the tread mill where I wanted to spend another 15 minutes for my total of 30 minute of exercise. My plan on the tread mill was to run 1/2 a mile and walk, at a fast pace, 1/2 a mile. Well the running didn't work out this time. The muscle that runs up the side of your shin, well it was a little sore from my last run, and well I decided to just walk it. I walked at a pace where it was very easy to walk or jog, at a speed of 3.8 for anyone that knows a tread mill. Anyway, I ended up walking 1 mile in a little under my 15 minutes. Yeah! So all in all I have accomplished my fitness goal for day 1!

When I came home from the gym I was a little hungry so I had a small granny smith apple with 2 tbsp of Carmel, (left over Ice cream topping), and did you know that 2 tbsp of Carmel ice cream topping has less calories and fat then 2 tbsp of peanut butter? I did either go figure! For lunch the husband and I had Lemon Pepper Tilapia on a bed of rice...yummy!, and for supper we are having meatless spaghetti, which I prefer it that way anyhow. However, being that is Ash Wednesday, I am observing the no eating meat today or on Fridays.

One day down 39 more to go! HA-Ha!

How I feel????

Okay so crappy title, yeah I know, couldn't think of what else to call it.

So I decided to do this because it is a little depressing to think that I haven't always been this way. All through childhood I was slim, and well fit. I was very active from playing sports, Soccer, track, and softball to Dance. Ballot being my favorite.
Well my Senior year of High School, giving away how old I am, graduated in 1998, I tore my ACL, a ligament in my knee. Luckily it was the last game of my high school soccer career. I got a few offers from some small colleges to come and play, walk on basically, but I didn't. One...I was afraid I would hurt my knee again and anyone who has had ACL surgery know how much that sucks, plus I didn't know if I would be able to handle that and college. Wish now I would have.
So with lack of physical active in my college years I started slowly putting on weight. Then I had my fist child and I never really lost the baby weight, then.....you guessed it came baby number 2. What is depressing about that is after I had baby number 2 I lost all the baby weight and some. I was where I want to be now. I wish that I would have worked at keeping it off then. Anyway all that weight plus a few pounds are back, and I don't like it.

When you 5yr old tells you that you are fat, not trying to be mean, just noticing the difference between you and themselves, is really horrifying. As a parent we are supposed to lead by example right, so I asked myself what example am I setting. Well the answer was not good. I limit the amount of snacks and what kind my children can have because I don't want them to become over weight kids. I want my kids to see me working out, and making good food choices.

So in a nut shell I would love to look like I did in high school, but I understand that is a little unrealistic, but to be 10 plus pounds lighter is a realistic one, and that I can no longer use having kids, and a hurt knee as an excuse. I only got this way because I put the wrong food choices in my own mouth.

Intoduction

Okay, so next Wednesday the 17th will be my official start date for my challenge! I will be upping my sporadic workout routine, to a more constant routine. I usually try to go 3 times a week to the gym, but well life happens and I don't always make it...Okay so in reality I make an excuse not to go, LOL not anymore.

The plan is for me, 5 days a week,to do 30 minutes at least, of exercise a day for 40days, the length of the lent season, and to continue long after lent is over! What is it they say? It takes like 30 days or something like that to make something a habit? Any how, that is the plan. Some of the things I will be doing will be going to the gym, taking adventures walks with the family, walking/running on the beach :), or doing work out videos at home. Whatever it is, it has to keep me moving for at least 30 minutes. Playing on the computer doesn't count. (Darn it) I will then take some time out and blog about what I did, how I feel, etc. You know all the boring stuff. Ha-Ha!

Who knows maybe I will inspire someone else to do the same sort of thing, like my Very Very Very Good Friend Amanda has inspired me!

My goal is to lose at least 10 pounds. I CAN DO IT!
